Well Alison's had an alright day today. She did well on the computer with her dad, and was able to tell me when she was in pain this evening. She was having pretty bad spasms today (dystonia) and I'm glad she was able to tell me. I'm hoping the Botox injections next week will help bring them under control. Thanks for your continued support.

Well Alison and I have had another exciting evening. The day hasn't been real great, but this evening she's been telling me all kinds of useful things! She started by telling me she'd gotten sick this morning - which I hadn't known. And then, when asked what one thing she wants me to make sure is addressed more than anything else, she said, "I want my retainer." She's been grinding her teeth from time to time for a while now. And apparently it's really annoying or painful. So now I have to go home and see if I can find it! So she's REALLY progressing on the computer and it's soooo exciting. And she's such a perfectionist - she's figured out how to use the backspace button too. : ) Thanks for all of your support and encouragement.

Here's a special message from Alison for everyone that's been following along with our story. It's her first real sentence she's typed using her left foot to activate a switch that selects letters on the computer. Hopefully there'll be plenty more to come.

Alison's had a much better day today than she has the last few. She finally came out of her "rut" and was back to laughing and smiling a lot. We had two good friends from Springfield visit today and we had a really good time together. By late afternoon, Alison began to doze off, so we left so she could nap. After dinner, I returned with a couple friends from church for a visit. We had a fun time with them as well. We worked on the computer for most of the day, and Alison continues to show progress at being able to spell things. This evening we asked her to, in one word, tell us how her vision is most of the time. She responded with "poor." We asked her to rank on a scale of one to five where that fell and she said a three. I've known she could see, but the quality has always been uncertain. At this point, we're working on simple, one word response questions to ask her so we'll be able to learn more about her condition. If any of you have any suggestions for questions (funny or practical), feel free to recommend them. We want to practice as much as possible. Tomorrow I intend to ask about the specifics of the pain she's feeling. But it's been a good day, and she's sleeping soundly, and so is our dog on slumber party Saturday. Thanks for your continued support.

It sounds like Alison's had a pretty good day today. When I popped in over lunch, I found a note from the speech therapist saying Alison had done really well on the computer again today. The note read that she was able to spell her name, my name, our dogs name and more! So I'm very excited that she's doing so well with it. I was looking forward to working with her some more on the computer tonight, but when I arrived I found her sleeping while sitting up (but tilted back) in her wheelchair. So I'll let her rest and we'll pick it up tomorrow. We've got some friends from Springfield coming into town tomorrow, so that should be fun. Thanks for your continued support.

Alison had a better day today than yesterday. Over lunch we had some friends stop by - which was nice. Then we had a training session for our assistive tech computer. Our speech therapist at this facility hadn't worked with one before, so it was definitely needed. And it was time well spent. Before the end of the session, Alison was back to spelling things using her left toe to activate a switch that would scan through and select letters on the computer screen. And this evening we worked on it some more and she was spelling a couple more things. She got pretty excited when it was happening - as did I. : ) So I'm again encouraged at the potential this brings for her to communicate again some day. We'll just keep practicing until she's got it mastered. We also met with her doctor today to review her meds and overall condition. He agreed to write an order for a Botox injection in her neck to help with spasms (cervical dystonia). Having those spasms under control would help her a lot. Thanks for your continued prayers and support.

Well Alison's not had the best day. Over lunch she was pretty out of it. She indicated she was tired and was just not real engaged in much of anything. The nurse said she'd had a rough night and didn't sleep well. That'll do it. She got a nap this afternoon but was still pretty out of it this evening. A friend stopped by for a visit and we had a couple laughs, but she just wasn't herself. Toward the end of the evening, she started getting pretty emotional. So they gave her some meds to help her sleep and relax, so hopefully she'll rest we'll tonight and have a better tomorrow. Thanks for the prayers and support.

Well Alison and I have a pretty good day today. My day started with an overwhelming display of support from my coworkers at our pancake fundraiser this morning. Many friends and coworkers showed up this morning and we are so blessed and thankful to have their support. After breakfast, Alison's brother and his wife went and hung out with her for the morning. After work, we had a visit from some new friends that will likely be around for a while. We recently met a couple where the young wife also had a brainstem stroke a couple years ago. Their stories aren't identical, but we can certainly relate, and they're just great people that we're happy to have met. So it's been a pretty good day overall and I'm in awe of everyone's continued kindness and support. We certainly couldn't do it without you.

Alison had an alright day today. Over lunch I found her in occupational therapy where they had electronic diodes hooked up to her neck trying to get the tense muscles to relax. It's not uncomfortable - just kind of odd feeling. She tolerates it well. I'm going to try and meet with her doctor this week to see if there's more they can do to address the neck spasms that are so frequent. If we could get that under control, she'd be a lot more comfortable. This evening we worked on some stretching. I'm still really impressed at how much bend she has in her right leg now. It was so stiff and straight for so long. It's good to see it coming back to normal. Her ankle still has a ways to go, but it's coming. And we worked on moving her left toe and ankle. That's what she uses to activate the computer switch - which we, unfortunately, haven't made a lot of progress on recently. But she continues to work that left toe and ankle really well. We'd do sets of ten lifting up with her toes - then holding for ten seconds, then the same for down. Tomorrow morning, my friends and coworkers at Bushnell are doing a pancake breakfast fundraiser for us. I posted the flyer earlier today (on Facebook) if you are interested. I'm constantly in awe of the graciousness and kindness of everyone. We'll never be able to thank you enough for all you've done and continue to do to help.

Alison and I have had a pretty good day together. Our slumber party last night went well. And today we did some range of motion exercises where I experienced a lot more bend in her often stiff right leg than I have in a long time. That's good news. Hopefully we can continue to make gains there and get it moving like normal again. And she got a good nap in this afternoon too. This evening we had a nice visit from a childhood friend of hers. And otherwise we've had a good day and evening. Thanks for your continued prayers and support.
Saturday, July 21, 2012
Alison's been pretty quiet again today, but that's not necessarily bad. Her aunts headed back to southern Missouri this afternoon, then a friend stopped in for a visit this evening. I put a deposit down for an apartment this afternoon. And tonight we've been watching movies. We're getting ready to turn in for the night on slumber party Saturday. Hopefully we'll all get a good nights sleep. Thanks for your continued support.

So Alison's had a busy but good day. Her friend Janie's last day was today. It's bittersweet to see her go. This week's been good for the two of them. And Janie just so happens to be a doctor, so she's given some good recommendations for medication adjustments and some other things that should help. And Alison also had a nice visit from a few gals from our church this morning. Then this afternoon two of her aunts arrived and spent the evening with her while Janie took me out for a nice dinner. Did I mention how great she is? After dinner I went back to hang out with Alison and we had a great time together. She really surprised and impressed me when we were listening to some music, and at the beginning of a random song she started in singing right on time with Celine Dion (don't judge me - it's Alison's music that somehow ended up on my phone). It was pretty awesome! And she went on to sing along making all kinds of sounds and mouthing the words. Also tonight, we reached an agreement, post-inspections, with the buyers of our house! That's a huge relief! So, overall, not a bad day. Thanks for your continued prayers and support.
Thursday, July 19, 2012
So Alison and I have had a nice, relaxing evening tonight. And it sounds like she's had a pretty decent day too. When I came by on my lunch hour, her and Janie were working with her computer. She had a quick visit from a couple of her girl friends this evening - which was nice. And tomorrow two of her aunts are coming into town to visit. Thanks for your continued support.

It sounds like Alison's had an alright day today. This evening she's been a little more emotional than usual. But all things considered, it's pretty amazing how positive she is most of the time. They've changed her pain meds to something a little less strong, so hopefully it will still be effective while allowing her to be more engaged in therapies and such. It wasn't a huge issue, but enough to try something different. And overall, she's had a good day though. Her friend, Janie, went to the store and picked up some yummy snacks for her - which included some Brie cheese which she really enjoyed. : ) And this evening she was probably showing the most vocal range and activity I've seen thus far. I think she's trying really, really hard to talk right now. She's got a long ways to go, but I'm hopeful she'll get it. Thanks for the continued positive thoughts and prayers.
Tuesday, July 17, 2012
Alison's been in pretty good spirits all day. Even when I came in and startled her before work this morning she was in a good mood. When I came in over lunch, she was in physical therapy and laughing and making sounds so much that it was difficult for them to make progress. : ) They were having fun though. And this evening we've had a nice time too. The staff here is doing a great job with her, and I can tell they're really taking to Alison. (I can't say I blame them.) And her friend, Janie, seems to be having a good time too. Thanks for your continued support.

Alison's had a good day today. Her and her friend, Janie, had a nice full day together. She had speech therapy over lunch that I was able to see some of. She was eating some crushed pineapple and doing well with it. She took a nice long nap this afternoon and we've had a nice evening together. Thanks for your continued support.
Sunday, July 15, 2012
Alison and I had a pretty good day today. Our slumber party overnight was great and we both slept pretty well. This morning/afternoon we watched a pretty funny movie called This Means War. After that we got a visit from Alison's good friend, and former Springfield colleague, Janie. They hadn't seen each other since any of this happened, as she's recently moved to California, so it was a nice reunion. Janie will be here all week hanging out with Alison during the day. But it was a good day, and a pretty good weekend overall. Thanks for your continued support.

Alison and I have had a nice day together. This afternoon we shared some tapioca pudding, then we did some range of motion exercises. I'm still pretty impressed with the movement in her left leg. Then some of her girl friends from church stopped by and painted her nails while I took a break. This evening two more good friends stopped by, so it's been a good, fun day. We got a movie to watch during slumber party Saturday, but I think we're going to wait to watch it until tomorrow. Also tomorrow, Alison's good friend and former colleague from Springfield is coming in to spend the week with her. I know they're both looking forward to it. Hopefully we'll rest well tonight. But so far so good. Thanks for your continued support.

Alison's had a good day today. When I stopped by before work, she was awake but really sleepy. So I got her nice and comfy and let her sleep. Over lunch she was hanging out with the nurses when I arrived. I stole her for a bit and we hung out until I had to go back to work. A college friend stopped by this afternoon, and it sounds like they had a good visit. After work I arrived to find her sleeping again. Then some friends stopped by a little later to hang out. We're looking forward to the weekend though. Tomorrow is slumber party Saturday, so that's always fun. Thanks for your continued support.
Thursday, July 12, 2012
Fortunately Alison has had a much better day today than yesterday. She had some good therapy sessions, and overall, was in a much better mood today. Her dad and his wife went back to Buffalo today. But this afternoon, Alison was visited by three of her work friends. It sounds like they had a good visit. Tomorrow she'll have a visit from an old college friend that will be in town. Thanks for all of your continued support.
Wednesday, July 11, 2012
Well it sounds like Alison had a pretty rough day. Her morning went alright, but this afternoon she hit a rough patch which resulted in some sustained crying for hours on end. We're not certain what may have caused it either - which is difficult on everyone. I got there about 7pm and after some anxiety meds (paired with some pain meds earlier) she settled down eventually. Please pray she rests well overnight and has a better day tomorrow. Thanks. - Chris
Tuesday, July 10, 2012
Well Alison seems to have had a good day today. Her dad and his wife arrived this morning and spent the day with her. They'll be here most of the week. She did pretty good in her therapies and was in a pretty good mood overall. Two of her aunts will come in for a visit tomorrow, so that'll be nice. On the home front, we're just waiting for inspections to happen on July 18. Hopefully that will go smoothly. Thanks for the continued support. - Chris
Monday, July 9, 2012
Alison seems to have had an okay day today. She was still sleeping when I stopped by this morning before work. Over lunch, she had just finished a busy morning of therapies. Speech reported she's doing very well with the soft food trials. Today she was eating yogurt pretty well. After her busy morning they were getting her back in bed when I left to go back to work from my lunch break. Two friends from her work stopped by for a nice visit this afternoon. This evening we had a good time just hanging out with our pup and watching tv. Her dad and his wife will arrive in the morning to spend the week with us. Thanks for your continued prayers and support. - Chris

Alison and I have had a good day today. We were finally able to get outside for some fresh air since it wasn't so hot. And otherwise, we've just had a fun day together. On the home front, we're under contract again - as of tonight! On Friday when our house went on the market, I had to go home over lunch, and just happened to meet a nice couple that was scoping out our house when I arrived. So I let them come in and look around, and it seemed like they really liked it. And they said we'd probably be meeting again - hinting they'd make an offer, and they did! They were the first people to see the house this time around, and we've agreed to terms for a contract. We'll have inspections over the next 13 days, and if all goes well, we'll close on August 23. And I have to give all the credit to my lovely wife. She decorated that house from scratch, and it is absolutely beautiful - as proven by our short time on the market. I didn't have to do anything but have it clean to show. She kept it show-worthy on a daily basis. I've told her she'll get another chance to do it again. : ) And thank you all who have helped me with the house - and everything else - along the way. I certainly couldn't have done it alone. But I suppose we still have to get through inspections, so we're not out of the woods yet. Thanks for your continued support.
Saturday, July 7, 2012
Alison and I have had a good day today. Tonight we're having another slumber party with our dog and just watched a funny movie. We've had some good showings on the house so hopefully something good will come of it. We're going to call it a night though. Thanks for your continued prayers and support.
Friday, July 6, 2012
Well Alison's had a pretty good day today. Her brother and sister in law report she had a really good speech therapy session where she was opening her mouth more quickly and wide than she has before. And I witnessed the same for the nurses during oral care tonight. The x-ray results for her painful right knee came back showing nothing of concern. That's surprising, but that's okay. We weren't wanting there to be a problem. But it's good to know for sure now. Our house listing for sale is off to a strong start it seems. We have had two showings today and already have two scheduled over the weekend - and probably more to come. Wish us luck! Thanks for your continued prayers and support.
Our house is officially on the market! Here's a link to our listing.
If you happen to know anyone looking, please let me know. If nothing
else, help me get the word out however you can. Thanks so much! -

Well Alison's had a pretty good day today. We should find out the results of her leg x-ray tomorrow. Her physical therapist says she did very well today. She showed some new movement in her neck and lower back muscles today. : ) And we've had a good evening hanging out together. Our house hits the market tomorrow. Let me know if you're interested. : ) Thanks for the continued prayers and support.
Well the Wilson's have had a relaxing and uneventful 4th of July. Alison's aunt Sally hung out with her this morning before heading back to Columbia. Meanwhile, a few friends helped me get the exterior of our house cleaned up and ready to be listed on Friday. This afternoon was pretty uneventful. Alison's been in a pretty decent mood today. A good friend brought a cd/radio by, so we've had fun listening to some good music and watching America's Funniest Videos. And Piper has been with us this evening and actually laid down in bed with her for a while. : ) Alison really enjoyed that. But this evening has been pretty low key. We might watch some fireworks on tv, but otherwise it's been a pretty standard day. They're planning on doing an x-ray of her right leg tomorrow to hopefully figure out what's been causing her pain. So we'll see what comes of that. Thanks for your continued prayers and support.
Tuesday, July 3, 2012
Alison had a pretty good day today it seems. I found her over lunch to be in good spirits and in between therapy sessions. Her aunt Sally arrived soon thereafter and stayed with her the rest of the day. Upon my return after work, Alison was still up in her wheelchair and having a good time with her aunt. We stepped out for dinner as they were just getting her back in bed. After dinner, I went back to say good night, and Sally stayed with her for the rest of the evening. Sally will go back and spend the morning with Alison while I do some work around the house preparing it to relist by Friday. We've been blessed with a girl from our church that has volunteered to clean our entire house on Thursday, so we'll just focus on cleaning up the exterior tomorrow morning. That's a huge relief! Our house wasn't that dirty since we did a pretty thorough cleaning about a month ago. But, still, it's one less thing to worry about. Then I'll get to spend the rest of the day with Alison tomorrow while Sally heads back to Columbia. Thanks for your continued support.
Monday, July 2, 2012
It sounds like Alison had a pretty good day today. When I stopped by before work, she was still sleeping, so I let her sleep. And over lunch, I was able to get the stuff for our Medicaid application turned in. And Alison was between therapies so I was able to hang out with her for a bit. This afternoon, our sister-in-law, Erica, stopped by for the afternoon. It sounds like they had some good girl time. This evening when I arrived, Erica and two other girl friends were hanging out with Alison. I think she really enjoyed the visits. She was in a pretty good mood most of the day. We are still dealing with some pretty bad pain in her right leg due to the muscle that is calcifying (turning to bone) from not being used. Hopefully they can do something to treat the issue, rather than simply continue to medicate for pain. Plus, I'm hopeful she has some ability to move that right leg once the issue is addressed. Aunt Sally will come in from Columbia tomorrow afternoon for a couple of days, so that'll be nice. And I'll be working this week to ready the house again for listing by Friday. Thanks for the continued prayers and support.
Sunday, July 1, 2012
Alison had another pretty good day today. She slept pretty well overnight during our slumber party, so that always makes for a better day. We had a few visitors stop by this afternoon and evening - which she thoroughly enjoyed. We don't have anybody with her throughout the day tomorrow, but I'll be there in the morning before work, then back over lunch, then after work a couple friends are stopping by, so that should be good. Plus, she'll have a few therapy sessions to keep her busy during the day. This week we'll be getting our Kansas Medicaid application submitted, so that'll be good to get going. And Alison's aunt Sally will be in for a couple days this week too. We're planning on having our house listed by the end of the week, so we'll have some preparing to do for that. But we had a good weekend, and will hopefully continue our good days into the coming week. Thanks for your continued support.
